World Lupus Day 2011 Photos

World Lupus Day Celebration

The most recent Lupus Association Queensland event was held on May 15th 2011 for World Lupus Day (10th May). The event was held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre in the River Room overlooking the Brisbane river. Guests traveled from interstate as well as overseas to hear local immunologist Dr Daman Langguth speak about the latest news in lupus in Australia and around the world. 96 people attended the High Tea and listened to our youngest member, Brooke Frazer speak about her life with lupus. Brooke was then presented with a gift; a hand made teddy bear made by Eleonora Skuse, for her efforts in raising lupus awareness at her school and in the wider community. Stay tuned for photos by Brisbane photographer Jen Ryan.

Our next fundraising and awareness event will be the Bridge to Brisbane in September. If you would like to be part of our team send us an email or join our face book fan page.

B2B 2010 Memories

Bridge to Brisbane 2010

In the past six months, our little support group has started to grow. New people affected by lupus are coming along to our monthly get togethers and forging friendships founded on understanding and support. It has been wonderful to welcome whole  families and friends into our community. We truly value your participation in our get togethers and awareness raising events.

Our most recent fundraiser was the Bridge to Brisbane on Sunday August 30th.  24 members of ‘The Lupus Diamonds’ walked the 5km trek along the Brisbane River to the RNA showgrounds. After the walk, we enjoyed a relaxing brunch at 16th on Park at Milton. Raising a total of $1280, we sincerely thank everyone who generously donated to Lupus Association Queensland. We are still aiming to raise enough to have brochures designed and distributed in hospitals and doctors surgerys containing information about lupus, support and relevant contacts.

Next year we hope to double our numbers in the B2B, so get in touch and come and help us raise lupus awareness! If you are not up to walking, you can come along and cheer us on.

Lupus Shirts

Check out our NEW t-shirts we will be wearing in the Bridge to Brisbane on August 29th. Here is our ‘Just for Kids’ writer, Brooke modelling the children’s size shirt and one of our hats. We will shortly be selling our shirts and caps, if you are interested in purchasing items, email us via the contacts section.

Brooke is one of 22 members of our team that will be walking the 5km event in the Bridge to Brisbane. Don’t forget to have a read of Brooke’s pages on the website.

Bridge to Brisbane

Our next fundraising event is the Bridge to Brisbane on August 29th. This year our team ‘The Lupus Diamonds’ are particpating in the 5km event and are aiming to raise $5000. With members flying from interstate, the day will be a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends and help raise awareness nationally. After the morning of pounding the pavement, join us for a brunch at Park Road, Milton.

Our fundraising page can be found on the Everyday Hero site: http://www.everydayhero.com.au/lupus_diamonds  we are well on the way to achieving our target with the support of family, friends and the community. Thank you to all who have so generously donated!

The Lupus Diamonds’ aim is to raise awareness about Lupus; a debilitating auto immune disease that effects the individuals quality of life on a vast scale. Lupus Association Queensland dreams of a world without lupus, and its members are actively involved in seeing that dream become a reality. Join us in the fight against Lupus by participating or fundraising with The Lupus Diamonds in the Bridge to Brisbane 2010. Your recognition will help us educate and support individuals affected by Lupus and the wider community.
